The Avebury Papers: Solstice Day: FREE COMMUNITY EVENT
Saturday 20th June 2026
11am - 3pm
Event Information
This solstice weekend, join artist Dr Gayle Chong Kwan for a series of guided XR experiences, in which you can navigate through landscapes and dreams as you explore her installation Oneric Archaeologies, inspired by the Avebury stones. Alongside this, you can join artist Lucie Smith for free hands-on art activities throughout the day. There is no need to prebook, but if you register using the link below it will give us an idea as to how many to expect and we can email you any updates about the event.
About the project:
The Avebury Papers Project is a four-year UKRI funded project to digitise, explore and share the multimedia archive of Avebury’s Neolithic origins and ongoing investigation. To encourage creative reuse of the archive and inspire new stories, The Avebury Papers Project commissioned two artists, Dr Gayle Chong Kwan and Kialy Tihngang, to respond to the wealth of material digitised as part of the project. You can find out more about the artworks here: https://southamptoncityartgallery.com/whats-on/the-avebury-papers/
This community day is free, thanks to funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. There is an opportunity to choose an amount to donate to the Art Gallery below. The more you feel able to donate, the easier it is for us to offer an exciting programme for as many people as possible. Thank you in advance for your support, which really does make a huge difference.
