Drypoint Day with Katherine Anteney

August 10 @ 10:00 - 16:30

Event Information

Spend the day exploring the medium of drypoint printmaking on this introductory course. Drypoint is an intaglio process and ideal for people who enjoy drawing. Work with line and tone on a variety of printing surfaces and leave with two small editions of prints.

Suitable for beginners. All materials included. This workshop will run 10am – 4.30pm with a short break for lunch. Full joining instructions from the tutor are below:

Drypoint is an Intaglio printmaking process which will use drawing skills  – but don’t worry if you feel you ‘can’t draw’ (although I bet you can!) because you will be able to trace your images if you need to.

We will be working on a material called Rhenalon which is transparent and also having a go with ‘paper drypoint’ sheets. They both act very differently. We will have a go at adding blocks of vibrant colour using a process called Chine Collé. I hope you will go home with two small editions of prints and a feeling of having learned a little about a new technique.

What you need to bring

  • Some ideas for your images – try and bring 3 or 4 so we can choose the best for the technique. This can be your own sketchbook work or images you have found. Photos are fine too. We will be working quite small – A6 which is standard postcard size (or 1/4 of A4). As drypoint is a drawn technique i.e the marks you make are what will print, try to source images with line and tone. I have attached some images of examples of drypoint printing for you to look at, but you can also search on the internet for images.
  • An apron – the ink is oil based and can stain clothing.
  • A packed lunch  – or lunch can be bought locally.
  • A folder or envelope to take work home.

Cancellations

In the unlikely event of our having to cancel a session, we will offer a full refund. Unfortunately tickets are otherwise non-refundable. Please contact us if you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend if you cannot attend for any reason.
