To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, Tudor House is delighted to be welcoming acclaimed actress and historian Jane Glennie for a one-woman performance exploring the friendship of Jane Austen and her close acquaintance, Martha Lloyd.
Jane Austen once wrote, “I love Martha better than ever”. Based on letters, recipes and gossip, this theatrical presentation about Martha Lloyd is performed a few doors down from where she lived with Jane until 1809. Performed in our intimate Georgian Room, this special performance promises the opportunity to discover more about Jane Austen’s time in Southampton.
Museum entry is included on the day of the performance.
Jane Glennie is an actress and historian with 30 years experience bringing history to life in museums, theatres and heritage sites. She is joint partner in the company “Pedlars and Petticoats” which offers living history and story telling activities to museums and schools.
The talks are stand alone theatrical performances which last between 45-60 minutes. Jane uses original and replica objects and costumes to enrich the talks and will happy to answer questions out of character after the performance.
