Inspired by the newly published Highlights from the Collection (2026), produced to celebrate Southampton City Art Gallery’s reopening, this illustrated talk explores some of the most remarkable works in the Gallery’s permanent collection. Drawing on over twenty years of working closely with the collection as an art educator, Dr Alastair Eales will reveal stories behind selected artworks, the lives of the artists who created them, and the rich history of the gallery itself. Part art history and part behind-the-scenes insight, the talk offers an affectionate, informative, and occasionally humorous journey through one of the UK’s finest civic art collections.
