Junior Art School: Exploring Avebury (7-13yrs) FREE COURSE
Friday 21 August 2026
10.30am - 3.30pm
Event Information
A fantastic opportunity to work with two Southampton artists, Lucie Smith and Alex Sutherland, exploring the Avebury Papers project and working with a range of media to create your own artwork
Join us for a free creative workshop for 7–13 year olds inspired by Avebury’s ancient landscape. Children will discover how lichen grows on stone before using it to create mono prints with Gelli plates. They’ll then make textured landscape collages using their prints, natural rubbings and colourful papers to reimagine stones, hills, trees and sheep. The session also includes hands-on pigment making, where participants grind materials like chalk, clay and fruits to create natural paints for expressive, Avebury-inspired artworks.
This workshop is free, thanks to funding from AHRC for the Avebury Papers Project, but spaces are limited. A fully refundable £15 deposit is required to secure your place. The fee will be automatically returned to you upon attendance. If making the deposit is an issue, please just email us at art.gallery@southampton.gov.uk
Cancellations
In the unlikely event that we cancel a session, we will offer a full refund. Unfortunately tickets are otherwise non-refundable. Please contact us if you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend if you cannot attend for any reason.
If you have any questions about the event please contact us at art.gallery@southampton.gov.uk or give us a ring at 023 8083 4536.
