Online History Talk with Imi Brine: Women and Children First: The Consequences of the Titanic Lifeboat Drill on 20th-Century Society
Friday 16 April 2027
7.30pm - 8.30pm
Event Information
Everyone knows the famous ‘Women and Children First’ order given as the lifeboats were loaded on RMS Titanic, but what consequences did this have for women in wider society, how was this order used by the Suffragette movement and how was it used to discredit women? What about the consequences for men?
Join us for this online talk led by historian Imi Brine exploring how the loss of the RMS Titanic contributed to conversations on the ideas of femininity and masculinity in Edwardian England.
