Weekday Wonderings: Southampton Medieval Graffiti Walk with Matt Garner

Thursday 21 May 2026
11am - 12.30pm

Event Information

Weekday Wonderings is a weekday initiative from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, exploring the rich history and heritage of the town. Each session is different, but it could be a talk, tour or something entirely different! Look out for exciting activities on different weekdays!

Southampton’s monuments and vaults are littered with incredible marks from the past, carved by masons and merchants for a myriad of reasons, from marking property, whiling away the hours and even to protect the space.

In this special walk join archaeologist and medieval graffiti enthusiast Matt Garner for an inspection of some of the fantastic medieval and post-medieval graffiti in Southampton’s Old Town. Please meet in St Michael’s Square (in front of Tudor House) ten minutes before the tour is due to begin.

Cancellations

In the unlikely event that we cancel a session, we will offer a full refund. Unfortunately tickets are otherwise non-refundable. Please contact us if you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend if you cannot attend for any reason.

If you have any questions about the event please contact us at museums@southampton.gov.uk or call us on 023 8083 4536 (emails and phones are staffed weekdays 9am-5pm).
