Event Information
Thinking Thursdays is a weekday initiative from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, exploring the rich history and heritage of the town. Each session is different, but it could be a talk, tour or something entirely different!
Step out onto the Common with historians Ally Hayes and Wendy Stokes from Bevois Mount History Society.
The walk will begin at the south entrance to the Common at the blue gates (at the junction of Cemetery Road and Northlands Road; What3Words: posts.stars.frozen; OS Grid Reference: SU 418137). The tour will last about 90 minutes and finish at The Cowherds.
Learn about Southampton’s jewel – from the zoo to the racecourse, the deepest artesian well in the country and the last hanging! Regrettably the walk is unsuitable for those with mobility issues.
Ally and Wendy’s book, ‘A Walk Around the Common’, and other publications, are available at October Books.
Our prices are based on helping as many people to access our sessions as possible. The more you choose to pay, the more people will be able to come and enjoy the same excellent programme of informative and entertaining activities. We thank you for any additional support you are able to offer us.
In the unlikely event of our having to cancel a session, we will offer a full refund. Unfortunately tickets are otherwise non-refundable. Please contact us if you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend if you cannot attend for any reason.
