VE Day 80: Southampton at War Walking Tour

Saturday 10 May 2025
11am - 12.30pm

Event Information

To commemorate 80 years since the end of hostilities in Europe, join historian Andy Skinner for a special walk around the old town exploring different aspects of the Second World War, from the escape at Dunkirk, the terrifying Blitz of 1940, the events of D-Day and the celebrations of 8th May, 1945.

This walk will include visits to medieval vaults that were used as air-raid shelters during the war.

Please meet 10 minutes before the tour start time in St Michael’s Square. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes. Regrettably it is unsuitable for wheelchair users and those with mobility concerns. Please be aware that in adverse weather the tour may be cancelled or postponed at short notice.

If you have any questions or thoughts please contact us at museums@southampton.gov.uk.

In the unlikely event that we cancel a session, we will offer a full refund. Unfortunately tickets are otherwise non-refundable. Please contact us if you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend if you cannot attend for any reason.
